About

This website contains the work of Marija Draskic Brancazio, artist, designer, musician and creative producer, living and working in Cambridge, MA.

Traveling across continents has taught me to find connections between the mythic imagery and storytelling of various cultures. Visual and musical storytelling is a way for me to connect to traditions of my country (Serbia), countries I traveled while growing up, and the one I currently live in (USA). I am particularly interested in symbolic portrayal of nature, traditional crafts, dreams, shamanic experiences, and feminine representation in various cultures. Shamanic practice, plant medicine and dream analysis are ways for me to access the visions of the subconscious and spiritual world, which I then materialize through various artistic mediums. In my visual art, I often work with a fluorescent acrylic medium that becomes visible under black light, which allows for my paintings to show secret imagery and come to life in an interactive process of exploration by the observer.

Artist Bio: True admirers of Symbolism, Visual Storytelling, and Traditions of the World would enjoy the artwork of Marija Draskic Brancazio. Born in the last years of Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia, she spent most of her early twenties living the ebb and flow of Belgrade’s urban life (today Serbia), learning the struggles of a transitioning postwar society. Leaving her home country in 2015 to find opportunities of growth, took her across the world and eventually brought her to the USA. Since making her first painting in 2018, she has shown her work and organized many shows and public projects in greater Boston area. She now lives and creates in Cambridge, making music with her band Sapatnik, and telling stories of her traditions and a rich journey, painted with colors, symbols and sounds.
